Eco-friendly toys store, Hazelnut Kids, is well-known for its incredible selection of organic and natural toys for toddlers, babies, and young children. However, the natural toys retailer goes above and beyond the norm when it comes to supporting the eco-conscious movement.
With the slogan “every day is Earth Day,” Hazelnut Kids is on a simple, two-fold mission: to support the development of healthy children with natural toys, and to support our planet through environmental sustainable business practices. Below we share a few of things that Hazelnut Kids does to help support this mission, beyond offering one of the greatest selections of natural wooden toys for toddlers and infants.
Eco-Sustainability Above & Beyond Natural Toy Procurement
At Hazelnut Kids, they donate 1% of all toy sales to local and regional land conservancies. Additionally, the natural toy store has one new tree planted for every purchase made both on the company’s website and in its local store in Traverse City, MI. For instance, if a mother purchases 6 natural toys totaling $500, Hazelnut Kids will then donate $5 to land conservancies and will also have 6 trees planted through the nonprofit organization called Trees for the Future.
A primary focus on Hazelnut Kids is to stock natural and organic toys that are tailored with the health and development of children (and the Earth) top of mind. The materials that are used to create these natural toys include organic cotton, natural wood, bamboo, wool, and non-toxic dyes and coloring agents. Natural toys can last a very long time, and they can often be passed down from past generations to future generations. And because these simple yet educational toys are timeless, they can also be donated or resold many years down the road.
Hazelnut Kids also using 100% recycled gift wrap and gift cards from Earth Love’n Paper Products. Not only is the paper post-consumer waste and completely recycled, but it’s also recyclable and can be used time and time again.
Lastly, the eco-friendly toy store also uses packing boxes with a 100% recycled exterior, 100% recycled gift boxes, and 100% recycled kraft paper as packaging fill. Hazelnut Kids also minimizes any printing systems, but when needed they use 100% post-consumer waste recycled paper as well as vegetable inks for marketing materials.
